Reading Week - Year 1 Style

Year 1 have had an exciting week by reading their class chosen book and doing activities around about the characters and the book. Can you guess what the books are? The week opened with a Pantomime from the Teachers of Snow White to get Children thinking about their favourite story and characters. In the afternoon KS2 Children came down to read to Year 1 Children. Again this partnership was lovely to watch and listen as they shared their favourite books. We welcomed parents, brothers and sisters into the classroom to read with their Children on Monday. The Children loved listening to stories being read and sharing their ideas. As the week progressed, the classroom doors have been decorated with the front cover of the class chosen book. The work that the children have produced over the week is also displayed here. Today was the finale with Children and Staff dressing as their favourite book character. Assemblies were held this morning to give prizes to the best dressing up outfits and prizes for the best door in each year group. Well done to Year 1 winners! Mrs Taylor and 1CT won the best door competition with the story "Where the Wild Things Are." Aicsha Arouche from 1CD won the first prize for the best dressing up outfit as a butterfly. Second prize was Faisal Al Shehhi from 1JA who came as a robot. Whilst Cephas Msengeti from 1AJ came as Jack and the beanstalk. Mrs Wardle from 1JW was voted best dressed up members of staff for Year 1 as Ursula the Sea Witch from the Little Mermaid. An enjoyable week was had by all the Children and Staff. Remember reading is not only a great way to learn things, it helps with our understanding and also can be relaxing.
